A '''Serial enabled liquid crystal display''' technically is a device that is comprised of two separate pieces.  It is a regular [[liquid crystal display]] that has had some sort of [[serial enabled LCD backpack]] added to it.  Whether the backpack is integrated into the board or simply soldered onto the back of the LCD, it all does the same thing.  Takes a normal LCD screen and turns into one that receives its commands via a serial line.
