Overview
Midsouth Makers is a group of geeks, nerds, tinkerers, makers, thinkers, and fanboys that have come together for a common purpose. We aim to gather like minded people who wish to experiment with various projects, and maybe even expand their knowledge in the process. All the while keeping things interesting and fun.
History
Jim Hill, had an idea for wanting a maker/hackerspace and started looking for one. Turns out there was nothing to be found, so he decided he would look to start one. He put up a small blog, started a googlewave with one or two people, and went on a business trip to Washington DC. When he came back the wave had exploded with comments, and so a first time gathering was decided. The group first met on January 8th 2010, and decided they would attempt to build a group in the Memphis area. So a time was set for a monthly meeting to gather and just chat and attempt to build a following for such a group.
Not even a month after the first meeting, the group was contacted by Pumping Station: One, a similar group in Chicago, informing that two of their members would be coming down to Memphis for a few day visit.
