My name is Ed Stafford, though some folks will call me Eddie, and others... well.. not so nice a name :) I answer to them all. I'm a Midsouth lifer, having grown up here from birth and have pretty strong roots here. By profession, I'm a Unix Administrator, specializing in Linux; though I've years of experience with SCO, DGUX, Solaris, and AIX. Even tinker occasionally with a BSD variant, Irix, and even Windows these days. I'm also a proficient programmer in C, C++, perl, PHP, most non-microsoft web languages, and I'm so-so with Java and a bit out of practice with Assembly for several platforms (6510 for teh WIN!) I've handled both LAN and WAN design, system/application architecture design and implementation, SAN storage management on all major platforms, and currently going through PCI-DSS compliance for the second time.
When I'm not groking, I'm spending my time either with my family (wife, daughter, and a son due in the next month), my close friends either gaming (pen & paper RPGs) or working on cars. I'm a fair mechanic. I can do engine rebuilds on pretty much anything petrol-based you hand me, and will probably do my first automatic tranny rebuild next year during a restoration I'm helping one of my friends with. I've also been taught a lot of construction/woodworking by my dad, including plumbing and electrical. Currently we're finishing a bonus room at the house, which has DEFINITELY eaten up all my free time and some of Mark T's and Marshall's (never too many times can I say, THANK YOU!)
I've built everything from bird-houses and RC planes, to custom frames and matting, to shops, additions to homes.. Everything shy of commercial construction (that's my Dad's arena.) My welding is HORRIBLE, mostly due to lack of practice. I have a 110V arc with a gas-shielding kit that I try to fire up every so often just for practice. I also take on a TV repair about once a year just to try to keep my electronics troubleshooting skills above "Complete Noob - DON'T TOUCH THAT!"
If there's something within my repertoire that you'd like to know more about or ask advice, feel free. I'm very open to discussion and debate. I don't argue (mainly because the process goes no where and we've ALL got better things to do), so if you disagree with something I mention, keep it to debate format and I'll be more than happy to let ya change my mind.
