06.12.2011 (week ending)
We have installed another kiosk in the shop storage room, it has internet access, and is set to join IRC by simply clicking the link on the desktop. It needs a keyboard if anyone can contribute one.
- As with the house kiosk, any PM's sent in IRC to either MM-Kiosk or MM-Shop will be read out loud, (the shop kiosk still needs speakers).
- Danny and John have cut out the large Google Maps marker, all that remains is painting, touching up and mounting it!
- Dan K is working on our RFID entry system.
- Danny is working on some modifications to our storage room in the shop, potentially looking at custom shelves, workbenches and peg boards along the wall(s).
- Ben was able to get the replacement belt ordered and shipped for the large shop fan up in the loft. Once that's installed it should be a good bit more comfortable.
- John picked up a push broom handle for the large push broom, it will be easier to keep the floor clean.
- John will be working on a lit interior sign that we may be placing in the front window. We are open to ideas, it's dimensions are ~12"x36"
- Trent and Paul worked on a weed eater, it still needs to run for more than 5 seconds, probably dirty carb and or leaky gasket.
Items needing attention:
- We need to finish clearing off the table in the shop with the parts bins. The ants seemed to have finish moving their colony outside, so we should be able to put the bins back together and away. We could use another empty parts bin in the fire room, the others can go in the shop storage room until we clear out some shelf space in the house. We need to get the tables cleared before the fiberglass class this Saturday June 11th at 11am.
- We are still collecting cardboard and aluminium cans, feel free to drop them off, neatly, in the right hand side of the paint room just beyond the gate.
- Salvage components and tear down some of the spare boards and electronics in the fire room. Anything on the right hand side of fire room that can be reduced in size and bulk would be appreciated.
- We have a PTouch label printer in the fire room, please label any shelf space you are using on the left hand side of the fire room.
- We are still collecting used motor oil, please provide your own storage container until we come up with a better storage solution. 1 gallon milk jugs fit on/under the left hand shelf nicely.
- Last month's "Tool Of The Month" were fire extinguishers for the space, we will be carrying that over for this month... hopefully we can crowd fund 2 larger ABC extinguishers so we don't have to dip into the group's funds.
- We need ideas for a large group project!
Edit: Go-kart\RC kart

The parts bins on the table seem to be clear of ants. We can use 1 more empty parts bin in the fire room, we have room for the rest in the shop storage room. When people have time, we can use some help putting the part bins back together before the Fiberglass class on Saturday 6.11.2011. There are some clean and dry drawers for the part bins in front of the server room window. Danny is making up plans for organizing the shop storage room. Danny and John Have cut out the large Google Maps point for the space, It needs to be touched up and painted.

Thanks to Dan K, Roy, Walter and Claudio, we have another kiosk computer in the shop storage room. It is running Debian, and has irssi set up for an IRC client. It needs a keyboard if any one has one. feel free to connect it to the computer and turn it on. To get into IRC, just click on the link on the desktop! No more having to trek into the house just to look something up. We have some spare computer speakers in the library, feel free to hook them up to the shop kiosk, it's set to read out loud any messages sent as a PM to MM-shop!

Danny will be repainting his minifig head, so don't mess with the fresh wet paint on the zombie head! Braaaaaaiiiiiinnnnnnnssssssss....

In the shop, on the tables and outside the roll-up doors we have several large gray part bins. Please be careful around the area, there was a large colony of ants in residence. The eviction notice has been served to the colony's queen, they are begrudgingly moving the little ones. They are rather polite, but are currently relocating to an undisclosed section of the yard. They are understandably cranky.

John was able to move the large pile of lumber from in front of the main roll up doors and placed them near the walkway in front of the band-saw. There is now some brake cleaner, plenty of brake grease and brake spring removal tools (2) that are being donated to the shop. If you work on your brakes at the shop feel free to use them! Danny recently brought a small air compressor, it's on loan to us and currently in the shop storage room. We now have a set of Titanium drill bits, they are stored in the tool chest in the shop storage room in the same drawer as the jigsaw blades. We also have a small siphon set I was going to use, but is hanging on the wall in the storage room. If anyone remembers, we need to move some of the protective goggles from the house fire-room and bring them into the shop storage room/left hand wall.
The foundry looks like it was moved off to the side and should be considered fragile until Walter gets a chance to check it out and move it to it's spot.
We should start holding on to any used motor oil for the foundry/forge. If you are kind enough to save it, please put it in a marked 5 gallon paint bucket and place it in the shop, covered if possible out of the way along the left hand wall.
04.11.2011
There is a small mess in front of the other mess in the shop. The mess is the future foundry. It'll be cured and out of the way by the weekend.

Shop Clean Up Day We were able to clean up a good portion of the mezzanine- the rear area in the shop above the storage rooms. We organized the top right section. Currently in the right hand corner of the mezzanine we have some large intact sheets of Plexiglas and some cabinets as well. We then moved about 10-15 full size doors and stacked them immediately to the left of the cabinets. Continuing to the left, you'll find several 1"-2" thick sheets of Styrofoam in addition to several "Fire Exit" signs with strobe lights and multiple coffee decanters. We placed the large air conditioner unit on a pallet for easier removal. We found and sorted several 100' ?sisal? ropes. We now have half of the rear shelves cleared with bench-top access and cabinets. We stored some aluminum planks and sheet metal sections in the right hand cabinets. Be careful with the accursed turkey leg!
If you find yourself on the mezzanine, you will need to watch your step, in the middle section, the first 1/3 of the flooring is solid, but the rear 2/3 of the wood floor is starting to show wear and WILL BOW under normal weight. We currently have some metal wall units over the area and will eventually cover/replace the sections with more sound material.
We were able to get most of the large wood pile moved from the rear corner, it's now relatively sorted in front of the unused roll-up door.
We were not able to fully accomplish what we intended, but we made some serious headway. moving doors Semi-cleared benches and storage
Important Items Remaining
- Move the pile of wood (planks/2x4/etc) from in front of the primary roll-up doors to a more out of the way location on the right hand side of the shop, so the floor space on the left hand side of the shop is clear again [Moved]
Items Remaining
- Finish moving the remaining doors from the right rear corner to the right hand side of the mezzanine
- Move the now empty metal shelf from the left hand corner of the shop to the right rear corner
- Move the large stack of Plexiglas from the desktop to the metal shelf
- Move the smaller stack of Plexiglas from the small shelving unit near the desk to the metal shelf
- Move the pile of wood (planks/2x4/etc) and place on the metal shelf
- Move the large wall panels to the mezzanine or store along the right hand wall.
- Check with Mr. Leath and see if we can use some of the newer cabinets/shelving units in the house
- Finish spooling the rope

There is a large pile of sawdust on the floor in front of the main roll-up doors in the shop near the heater unit. It's there to absorb some spilled motor oil. We should leave it there for a couple of days to hopefully absorb the spill and make clean up easier. Kevin had the great idea of saving all our sawdust and storing it in a marked 5gal paint bucket and using it for spills. We currently have something similar, but its in a metal trashcan. We need a safe non-flammable storage location for that, in a clean and marked 5gal bucket (which can be found around the back door between the wall and the house) with lid.
